Blog Enteries: August 2023

August 31

Finally, all done with my project!

After many hours, I finally completed this project with a lot more flourishes than I originally thought.

Atlantian Seadragon Award

This is going to be an interesting project.

A friend dropped off a scroll for me to complete.  It was designed to be a collaborative project for a member of our local canton.  They completed all the words and the calligraphy.  She warned me that the ink may still be fresh and to avoid erasing anything until later today.

I'll take a look at it and see what I can do.

Simon's Catalan Map Scroll

I think that this is going to be one of my most ambitious projects ever: The Catalan map scroll of AEthelmearc and the East.  I don't have much to add yet in terms of detail.  But expect that I will be soon.  The clock is ticking.

This is my latest project.  You get a teaser image for it for now.

My vellum arrived today!

This is my vellum fresh out of the package.  This particular variety arrived from Brazil.  I've never used this supplier before, so this will be a fun and interesting challenge.

Side-by-Side Comparison

Here is a close-up of two pieces of vellum.  On the left is a piece that I've already sanded and powdered. The right is fresh out of the pack.  Can you spot the difference?

Checking the Vellum for Imperfections

Here are some more photos of my vellum up against a light source.  This helps me spot areas of imperfection that may need more attention than others.

Pennsic Stuff

It's not very often that I get to post a family picture, but this is me and my mentor.  Both of us were the kingdom champions of rapier.  I represented Atlantia.

I think we cleaned up nicely.

More Pennsic Stuff

At Pennsic, I was very honored to be recognized with the Order of the Opal, the lower level service award for Atlantia, plus the Queen's Courtesy award and the King's awar of Excellence.
